The next update...


Hey. It’s been a long time since the last devlog, and I imagine that some people think I dropped the project.

Well, it’s not exactly abandoned, I still visit it and tweak and test a few things here and there from time to time. As you all already know, I just don’t have that much time to work on it.

I am mostly working on animations (and fixing bugs). I was working on a overgrowth-like cubic interpolated animation system for locomotion, but I did not like it very much due some limitations it brought and how non-human it looks (looks too smooth).

It also basically meant dumping Unity’s animation system altogether and creating my own from scratch, with custom blender exporters and importers, and a runtime system to play them. And I realized that it was just too much unnecessary work, and I was better off just using what Unity already offers (with all of its flaws).

The reason I didn’t want to use Unity’s animation system is because it is very difficult to produce high-quality animations, and buying animations is expensive and therefore out-of-reach for me. But recently I started using Cascadeur and it seems very promising, and a lot easier than animating things in Blender, so hopefully I will settle with it now.

My expectations, or the plan I should say, is to get a mgsv-like animation system. Not sure how doable it is, but that’s the plan. Players will be able to walk, crouch and crawl. And then obviously properly hold weapons with ik and etc.

Since this is more of a hobby project, I tend to take a lot of time to develop things to the level of quality I accept.

TLDR: next update only comes up when I finish the base of the animation system.

I stumbled across your gore system videos (which youtube allows lol) and I want to say I hope some really big project is gonna come out of that system
